NEW PRODUCT | Air Filters That you Don't Have to Oil

Published by Crate Insider on 20th Jun 2023

Hey everybody, it's Kate with Crate Insider and today I want to tell you about a new product we've started carrying in the store. For years, we have been Walker Performance Filtration dealers. And we've been selling the 3 inch and the 4 inch oiled air filters. Now, just recently, Walker has introduced the Walker Dry Media Filter. And with the dry media, I think this is going to be a great advantage for several of our racers out there. If you have found that when you have a brand new oil filter, that it works great, but then after you've cleaned it, oiled it, and if you're getting any dirt or dust into your engine, a lot of times that is a sign of over oiling a filter. So if you're having a hard time getting that right balance, that's where the dry media filters come in, because you just don't have the maintenance. So there's some pros and some cons, the pro of course, is you don't have to oil the filter. And the number two thing is it's going to be more consistent. If you know if you've got some inconsistencies with the oiling of the filter. And just as easy to use- these come out of the bags and can go right onto your car. What I do love in house here is I was really worried about ordering these and having a chance of getting them mixed up. But as you can see there is quite the difference in how the folds are done between the dry media filter or the oil filter. So it's really easy to tell those apart. These are also cleanable and washable. So, on the con side of why you may consider sticking with an oiled filter. For one, I understand that these may not last quite as long, you can just blow them out with your air hose, you know on a weekly basis. And then if they get dirty, then you can clean them. But they may not have as many cleaning cycles in them as the oil filters do. Something else that when these are fresh new out of the box, the oil filter will give you better performance on the dyno when they're brand new, compared to the dry media. But that is up to you to consider how much of a an issue you're having with oiling a filter- if you have no issues stick with these. But if you'd like to have easier maintenance, you know don't have to worry about over or under oiling. If you're not worried about just like just a couple of horsepower. This is not the difference between first and 10th then the dry media filters are the way to go. And we carry them in our store we have both the three inch and the four inch. And I want to answer a question we get a lot when we talk about three inch and four inch filters. What we're talking about is really just the media. So I've got my tape measure right here this is our most used tool in the in the store is our tape measures. And when I measure this, we're going to find that that is right at three inches. I'm measuring from this edge to this edge. Now by measuring the entire height of the filter. The whole filter is just over four inches or right out about four inches because we've got about a half an inch of urethane on top and bottom. We love that fact it's nice and squishy. And when you're putting this together with your air filter base in your lid that you can really squish it down and block out any kind of penetration for any dust or dirt that can get in there. So this is the three inch filter and then we've got the four inch and again, that's going to be four inches tall and five inches tall. But the filtration media itself is three or four inches. So these are available on our website at CrateInsider.com and you can find them in our air filter section or you can shop by brand and find it under Walker Performance Filtration.
